RondeHoep.jpg

The “After work quickie”. Easy to reach, no navigation needed, and socially stimulating (since you always find someone you know riding it). Once you reach the actual Ronde Hoep route, no traffic lights will stop you from scoring a PR! Be aware that the actual Ronde Hoep is open to cars, so keep the right while cycling.

It starts and finishes on the Amstel, taking you south out along the Amstel before crossing at Uithoorn, and making a loop of Mijdrecht then on the Amsterdam-Utrecht section of the Rhine canal. From here it is back towards Abcoude, plenty of places for coffee and pie, then home. Why is it called Pete's route? Pete was a strong cyclist who rode with ATAC for 2 years, and this may have been the only route he knew!

This time the direction is west, almost to the sea. After a first bit through some industrial areas of Amsterdam, you will go thorugh golf fields, along canals and then reach the dunes, before heading to the “mountain” of Kopje (it is just a hill actually, but Dutch’s concept of height is a bit falsified): here you have a short climb to test your legs and you can go up and down as many times as you want. You will also see some of the most amazing houses in the area! There is a small easy gravel sections but totally doable with a road bike, don’t worry!

Tackle the Ronde Hoep from another perspective: start and finish is the same but you will be riding on the other side of the canal and all the way to Uithoorn, then cross the Amstel work your way back to town via the Bullewijk canal. This is a popular short recovery. It is easy to get to, offers an interesting route, and plenty of coffee stops.

Tulips ATAC.JPG

There is usually a 2 weeks window to enjoy the color bath offered by the Dutch tulips blossoming. It happens somewhere in April, depending on the weather, and attracts lots of tourists. This route takes you right in the middle of it, in the area around Lisse. It takes a while to get there, but the rewards is stunning, no matter if you’re a first time viewer or an endless romatic who can’t get enough of this color explosion!

Markermeer.jpg

The famous, or notorious, Rondje Markermeer, with lots of long stretches, guarantees an epic ride, with the twisting roads in Noord-Holland, the endless long dyke to Lelystad and the even longer path back to the mainland via the grey (not always though) and flat (yes. awlays) Almere and finally home, Amsterdam. The amount (and direction) of the wind and sun will determine the attractiveness of your ride. But one thing is for sure: you better team up for this route, because you don’t wanna cycle 80km against the wind on your own, especially on your way back!

WNFR.jpg

This is our Wednesday Night (Fast) Ride and has plenty of long straights for good solid training. We start and finish from the ferry behind central station, head up North to Purmerend where we then turn left and do some nice treshold efforts along the Kanaldijk before coming back almost the same way. Ready to feel your legs burning?

Marken.jpg

We suggest to go via Flevopark and the two bridges to reach Amsterdam Noord but if you live in West or Zuid then you can also take the ferry behind Central Station. Once the city is behind you, the route has no traffic lights and it is a nice stretch up north along the coast. Ride on the windy dijk to reach Marken and the lighthouse. Marken is a cute village with nicTulips blaste cafes and bars. Make sure to stop by!

Ijsselmeer.jpg

Ijsselmeer.

268 or 344 km

This is a truly epic ride, and one that is better done over a few days, but only done by hard men in a day. It is a circular route that leads around the IJssel-Lake called the Golden Circle by the Dutch.  This loop takes you alongside the IJssel-Lake or IJsselmeer, which was a sea until 1932. In 1932, the ‘Afsluitdijk’ was constructed, the sea was turned into a lake. Thank Dick for the routes, and for been the hard man who has done both of these rides more than once. Below you can download the traditional "long" version. For the short one (buhhhhhh), the link is here.
